If you don't have the solids option and you import a solid does it bring the solid in as a solid or a surface? I was told it brought it in as a surface. Is this true? Can anyone verify this for me. I have the solid option and we are looking to get additional seats but I'm unsure if we need solids since we don't modify them.

If you move them you WILL need the solids option. However you can use the WCS to bring the origin to the solid.

It willbring it in as a solid. You just will be able to do very little with it. Including translating it.

yeah you can create surfaces from solids it is the white rubix cube icon

We run our sim key on a network. We have been able to get by with one solid seat that way.

You could save a little money that way unless you require multiple users on solids.

If you have the solids module, you may want to get the solids tutorial book also. We've had both for years and I'm just now getting around to creating solids with MC. The tutorial for X was an ok book if you ask me. It makes you draw the wireframe needed to make the solid in alot of dif ways. It also showed me some stuff in wire that I was unaware of or used so infrequently that I had forgot. Like holding the shift key and picking a full chain. It definitely takes you thru the basics.

I don't have to create any solids, but I do have to be able to translate and move them around, so I guess we'll get two more seats of solids. Thanks everyone

When you open a SLDPRT or similar part, you have the OPTION to bring it in as a solid. If you want to bring it in as surfaces, simply uncheck that option when opening the file. That way you will later be able to translate the part as needed.
