CC in Helix Bore?

Recommended Posts

I've always used Contour with Ramp when I need to mill a hole, and I thought, "Hey, I should probably be using Helix Bore."  So I try it and I get cutter comp applied on arc moves.  Is there a way around this?  Maybe that's the reason I've always used Contour, my remembery isn't all that good.

On the Cut Parameter page

Change " Entry Arc Sweep" from 180 to 90

and make sure "Start at Center" is checked

this will give you a line to get CDC engaged and a nice smooth arc into the cut

I prefer this to the  "Perpendicular" setting which just bangs straight into the side of the hole

Is this different than a circle mill helix entry? I'll be honest I've never used the helix bore feature.

circle mill helix entry is a roughing pass to get to a Z level wwhere the toolpath

will do the circle mill

helix bore perfroms the same function as you'd get with contor ramp, but you have a lot of options

for finishing the hole, that would require seperate operations using contour ramp
