  1. Just wondering if I am missing something here. I cannot select a depth for a depth limit, I have to key it in...very much a pain having to write down a depth then key it in.
  2. Hyperthreading will kill Mcam's performance, no matter how you set the affinity. Hyperthreading does help if you have 5 or 6 programs open at once, my experience is that it helps stability a bit. Try this for a test....pick a fairly large file to verify...set all the quality settings to max. Time your verify with hyperthreading on then with it off...should have a good impact. Dual core's & mastercam is worthless too. Mastercam does not utilize dual core processors in any way that is advantageous. Perhaps in the future CNC will take advantage of the hardware that is available today.
  3. I recently did some testing with different cards, tested in mastercam verify with a stopwatch (not exact, but close within a few seconds). Used the same machine, reinstalling drivers for each card, used the latest drivers from nvidia's site. Machine is a 3GHz P4. File used a imported STL created in Rhino and used 5axis toolpaths Card 1 - GeForce FX5200 - 2min 30sec Card 2 - GeForce 6800GS - 2 min flat Card 3 - Quadro FX4000 - 1min 50sec Card 2 can be had for under $200 US. For the fun of it, I loaded rivatuner with the 6800GS & worked its magic and softmodded it into a FX4000. Time was the same as the "real" FX4000 (priced at $1500) Next I overclocked the machine to 3.5Ghz. Times dropped by approx 30sec. My conclusion...spend the $$$ on more GHz. Odds are your processor is the bottleneck, not your GPU. The main differece I noticed for the ultra cheap 5200 vs the other cards was the loading time for the stl file.
  4. I have the same issue..no responce other than the automated report when I e-mail CNC about this. Misc Values just don't work with the new toolpaths.
  5. I wish it was that easy. Apparantly in this control you can rotate an axis in the parameters...so even in a manual mode you can hand crack the axis and it will move on whatever angle you specify. Trying to "easily" fit a part 82" long on a machine with 78" of travel...by moving diagonally.
  6. just wondering if anyone has played with this feature & had luck with it. The book ( user manual ) is FAR from clear as to how to use this feature. Basically, I would like my X axis to move on say a 20 deg angle...that is move the x axis and the y follows suit..... Somehow I think Fanuc loses a bit of info when translating their manuals...could be the broken english, but something tells me I am not getting the full story Thanks!
  7. Multiaxis verify is a JOKE anyways. nice option that shows tools going through parts.
  8. bumping keeps the post toward the top of the page, more likely to be noticed by the power that be...as in one that will give a real answer vs an automated responce
  9. any plans for gouge checking in the future on 5ax paths? This is one feature that Delcam has that I wish Mastercam would follow suit & do.
  10. ha ha....at least that might give it some attention
  11. looks like I am gonna have to bump this to death
  12. Am I missing a setting or something? In both backplot and verify, mastercam rotates the tool around the part, rather than the part rotating. As a result, in verify I get tools going completely through a part when transitioning from one area to another...making verify "almost" worthless. Not exactally happy about this...seeing how mastercam offers 5 axis verify as a specific option (which I have) In V9, backplot allowed you to rotate the part about the Z axis, I have not found this function in X. I hope I am just missing a setting........
  13. quote: I have been using the new Surface High Speed Milling toolpaths and I really like the way they work. the only problem is when I change Values in the Miscellanious Values page they are not retained when I reacces the segment. And they are not utilized when I post my file. As of now I an just hand editing the .txt and .nc files but I just wanted to know if anyone else is having a problem. Or if I should let mastercam knowIdentical problem here. Useing a modified MPGEN5AX post, which does use a few misc values to say the least. I posted about this right after MR1 came out http://www.emastercam.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...=1;t=018795;p=1 I have noticed something else since this, have not had time to verify it tho... When I attempt to change the misc values, regen the path, All of that operations parameters went back to default values (depth cut, ect) Bout all I can say is I use these paths with caution. They do work great with a high feed cutter (Mitsubishi AJX)
  14. it comes in clean into X. Cut parameters are the same. It only gets messed up when I regenerate the path.
  15. function is the same..the look is different...only on the levels manager
  16. Installing X with MR1/SP2 DOES mess up the way your level manager looks in 9...not a huge issue, but the new look is painful.
  17. I uploaded a file to the FTP, spiralcontour.mc9 in the mc9 directory. It works fine in 9, and it comes in to X good, till I regenerate it. I then get the error "cutter compensation not successful". So, it works in 9 but not in X running X w/ MR1/SP2
  18. has anyone actually benchmarked the difference between say a GeForce FX 5200 (low end) and a Quadro FX 1100? Would be curious to see the results...maybe do some STL's in verify to see the time difference.
  19. I have the same problem with the "S" key. right now, I hit backplot, and without clicking on the graphics screen I hit "S". the tool does one move (the slider bar moves a bit. Then I can hit "S" all day & nothing till I click the graphics screen. Idealy I don't want to have to click the graphics screen at all when backplotting.
  20. Gene, As far as I know the post is set up correctly. All other toolpaths are accepting the values & outputting them into the program. The post is a modded mpgen5ax. On these toolpaths, even when I enter values it sets them back to zero when I go in and out of that particular operation.
  21. anyone else having problems with the misc values in the new HS toolpaths? one sphinxter clenching feature on these toolpaths is under the linking parameters..using the minimum vertical retract with the output feed move turned off...rapids between bosses & stuff, but misses everything. I chickened out and put full vertical retract after running my first part. one thing I would like to see on this would be able to select geometry for the use z depth...much like you can on the old surface toolpaths.
  22. hey all...just wondering if anyone else has run across this yet... I am trying to use the new core roughing toolpath...works great..but for whatever reason it is not outputting anything from the misc values page. I have tried everything (Automatically set to post values), changing the values...yet when I go back into that operation, all the values are reset back to zero. All other toolpaths appear to work properly (contour, surface rough, ect) they do spit out the Misc values I have set. Any Ideas???
  23. the new HST toolpaths are pretty cool....lots to play with there.
  24. Thanks for clearing that up gcode...good to know that CNC software is not like "most" software companies
